About

Alicia hails from the sunny, sleepy town of Boynton Beach, Florida. She came to Toronto for grad school, and she liked it so much she never left! She juggles her time between her three loves: performing for the stage and screen, writing, and as a vocal coach.

As playwright, her solo show How to Be Black was written and produced under York University’s MFA Acting program. Obsidian Theatre Company’s Playwrighting Unit was the incubator for her full length play: Articulation. Alicia worked on her first Theatre for Young Audiences play, Sweeter, with Cahoots Theatre Company’s HOT HOUSE Creation Unit. This past summer, she drafted a psychological thriller / tragicomedy, Solve for X, as the Driftwood Theatre Group’s Playwright-in-Residence. “My mission is clear: to capture the beauty, complexity, and absurdity of the black experience, one play at a time.”

Upcoming: An excerpt from Solve for X will be read as part of ACTRA Toronto’s Working the Scene in Colour 8 on May 28, 2019 at 7:00pm. ACTRA Boardroom (North Side, 2nd Floor) 625 Church Street . Free admission.
